I recently added some "featured" menus that bring up related products to product pages of an ecommerce site. This wasn't for any SEO reason, just to help sell products.
I noticed that all my rankings suddenly dropped way down for all the product searches, I had a look at the pages and noticed that the featured menu contained a very high concentration of my keyword, so say on the "Blue Widgets" page my menu would say:
Other Similar Widgets
Green Widgets | Red Widgets | Latest Widgets | Retro Widgets | Ultra Widgets | Widget Accessories
I took out the word "widgets" from each link and my rankings came back - was I effected by some kind of keyword spam filter? Maybe it was a coincidence.
I see a lot of sites use these type of menus including the keyword a lot of times - maybe google has got wise to this. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |
Thanks for the question. I have to consider that for myself as well. I jumped to # 7 on a key search term and fell to over 300 shortly thereafter.
