writing articles are great. a couple of tips:
1) Make the title of your article a specific keyword you want to target. Google will pick up the title/keyword. I have some articles ranking first page simply by doing that.
2) Read articles submitted by other people that cover the same topic as your website and make legitimate comments at the end while leaving a link back to your website. They eventually are picked up by Google.
