Web-directory is an important aspect of
SEO/SEM. Submitting to web-directories are a must if one needs to improve the visitor rates to the website. What matters is the type of submission that is being made.If it is a paid subscription your website submission is instantly approved and is put right on the top of your selected category. But then when Google updated
PR and backlinks last October ,2007,lots of people lost out on
PR and Backlinks and there were speculations that links being traded had to be done with the adsense account.I personally have never ever gone in for paid subscriptions ,infact I always prefer free submissions even though it takes me time.Any ways coming back to the adsense part, when I tried discussing it in other web-master forums the web-masters termed my post as crap, even though I knew that there was some truth in my statements after all the statements made after the October Update were made by experts themselves.Coming to free submissions always select the category that either has maximum approvals or minimum reviewals pending.I did it for DMOZ, even though it took my website 6 months to be submitted it finally happened.
As for links ,any link page that has more than 50 links would be termed as a link tree instead of a page and will not be crawled.More over Google has also refused to index the html or link pages that has the term "links" or any alpha numeric character present in their URL.
As we all know links are important for
PR and traffic ,it is always important to know the page where the link would be placed.Only then will the link building be significant.
