What Vastari says is very, very true. The domain location doesn't really matter, be it .com or .info or .net, unless it's really, really obscure (something along the lines of .tv).
As long as you have enough quality content on your site, along with other things, such as links from other sites, your site can definately become number one on many or all of the common search engines.
