you can send you site through directories..
just make sure you send it to the directory that is related to your site..
keep on social bookmarking and pinging your site everytime you have new post..
and also you can join forums and put the name of your site in your sig..
that's how you invite visitors to your site..

You can give away cheap merchandise like stickers. Use your creativity. A friend of mine used to advertise his site by simply writing the url on a paper and leaving it on a coffee shop.

I want to creat a blog now and I think the best way to promote it is let my friends help me promote it . Every friends have their own friends, so I might can get a lot of traffic to my blog, if all my friend can help me.

I think if you only ask help from your friends, it is really hard to get great traffic, as not all of your friends will be interested in your blog, if you ask them to promote it, they might think you are boring person.
