I was just wondering how relevant or what sort of weighting your domain name has in relation to a keyword search?

I was under the impression that if you pick a relevant domain name it would help you greatly. A removals firm call w...removals-r-us.com for example would surly help if removals is your main keyword.

Example: i have a site that deals in 'disability equality' the actual name of the goverment requirement in this area in 'disability equality duty plan' I purchased the domain

and built a very basic site and it went straight into google at number 1 under the search term ''disability equality duty plan' with one inbound link from a PR4 page (now has more)

Things are changing in the do's and don't of SEO so fast these days so i'd like to hear others views.

It makes a lot of difference. In fact, it's the number 1 consideration to search engine bots when it comes to displaying search results. That's why certain domain names fetch high price and people are willing to pay for it. It's the base to your website success.
