Google is very choosy. They display links selectivly.
Google actually don't display backlinks that have similar content and from simialr domain.

It is issue of 1 or 2 months. In next google pagerank (or backlinks) update, google will show all the new backlinks you've gained since last pagerank update.
Last pagerank update was in mid april. So, since mid april whatever backlinks you've gained will be displayed on google.com.

My site is only 3 months or so old. I have managed to secure some search terms on MSN but Google is hard and Yahoo is virtually non existent for me yet. What happens with Google and Yahoo that is so different from MSN?

Yes, same boat for me. I have 1700 Yahoo links but it is some sort of error on Yahoo's part. I still do not show up on any Yahoo search terms. Google only gives me 1 back link. Weird.
Please keep in mind that Google takes atleast 2-3 months to display backlinks and display backlinks selectively.
However, yahoo will display most of the backlinks as they appear to their crawler.

Another related question: after the 2-3 months that you mention will Google begin giving me some positions on search terms I am after b/c of the amount of links I have out there (alot). Or do they also wait for your site to simply be "around" a little longer?
I am showing up on MSN very high on some selective search terms but Google is tough.
