I am going to add few links on directories , I am gonna get Reciprocal links. Do you think its a good way for getting links?

Basically I always avoid directories that will list your site in turn of placing reciprocal links. I don't like the idea at all because if let's say you submit to over 20 directories, that would mean your whole main page will be full of links. I don't think there are many people who like doing that.

Then what should i do to get Links? Where should I search for more and more links? Should I go with the site with same niche as I am having or niche does not matter when I buy links?

I think this procedure is great for search engines, but it most likely wont generate traffic. It will take time for a search engine to see your links, and after that you might get a better ranking.

I have a friend who submitted one of his blogs to over 2k directories, and he gets a steady 10~20 uvs/day from them .

That should not be hard. Free directories, dofollow blog commenting, forum signatures, all methods are good enough. Of course the best is to get the links in the same niche as your site niche. However, I wouldn't go for paid links.
