MySQL General: Help: Unable to start MySQL in linux

Hi all,i am new to mysql and linux environment. I tried install the mysql 5.0.18 in the linux server using yast. Once it installed, it couldn't start the mysql. it gave me error message below:ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL serve
