I often come across this basic question about the difference between PR and Alexa. Actually it's not that hard to understand. PR basically is determined by how many quality in bound links is pointing to your site. It is a standard develop by Google and it's used as a ranking to determine how important your site is according to Google search engine.

Alexa on the other hand is determined by the amount of traffic you are getting to your site. The lower the ranking, the better your position.

I give more weight to PR than ALEXA.
If you've a good PR, you will have good search engine rankings.
If your ranking is good, you will have more traffic and your ALEXA will be good.

Yes I agree to your statement. If let says we managed to get into top ten in Google search engine for a few particular keywords, that would bring a lot of traffic. That would in turn improve on your Alexa ranking as well.

Sorry if my statement sound confusing. The lower the number basically means the higher amount of traffic your site is getting. For instance, if you have Alexa rank 1, that means your site is highly popular compared to the rest.

It sounds like Alexa is just the opposite of Google PR. I have never checked my rank on Alexa but I have a PR 3 on Google for my blog. I guess I really should get the Alexa toolbar.

They aren't opposites, they measure totally different stuff, which is why they seem so different. There's nothing opposite about them.
Neither have that much weight, in my opinion, because the most important thing for a domain is it's SERPS, nothing else.

Just the different of statistic, the best ranking of PR is 10 out of 10, or you can say this is first class and second class is 9/10 and so on. In thi case, you can know only 11 class (including 0/10) and each class have quite number of site.
However, for the alexa ranking, is individual base, only 1 site are fall at rank #1( the best ranking), and of course followed by rank #2 and so on.

Yes, i do agree.
1. Alexa ranking is only count the person who using alexa tool, and how many percentage of person are using alexa tool? Mean if i got even billions of traffic but my visitors all did not use alexa tool, then i definately have very low ranking in alexa.
2. Some of the people know that you can keep on re-fresh your site and your alexa ranking will raise up. Alexa only pay attention for those top 10000 site.

I don't give importance in Alexa Ranks. Its not accurate to the fact that it only based its ranking to traffic gained through Alexa toolbar., no more! no less! Alexa ranks is only useful for link trades and for those commercial site as they used alexa as a basis on pricing their products.

zealseo the lines above are very clear in this sentence that as the ranking is are good when lowered with others like wise same with alexa.

I your site has a traffic ranking of 3,50,214. and after one month you are ranking is 2,45,110 then this means your site is doing well with alexa traffic rankings.

Now, you can measure the ranking is lowered.

Although all of members here go in favor or go against but for me it even can't compared. All of you comparing two rivals i.e Google and MSN. Google has nothing to do with Alexa and in the same way Alexa has nothing to do with Google. If you think Alexa stats are compiled from traffic only then you are wrong. Alexa counts everything just like Google's PR but PR is very complex formula. It is rather difficult to get listed in Google but MSN doesn't behave in this way. On many forums I have read that MSN admires new sites and list them high but someone will has to maintain it hardly.

SO there is no comparison between Alexa and Google's PR.

Alexa rankings are extremely biased. Even a small site could have several of it's frequent visitors load a toolbar and make the site look popular.

I do know some people are doing this, they just build a website and increase the alexa ranking to 10k within a week, then they sell it out to someone who dont really understand the concept

Alexea seems to be inacurate. Going to your site with an Alexea toolbar over and over can boost your rating. Even though the actual traffic is disimal.
