Yes, you are right. SERPs more concern on keyword and PR more to the backlink. Both of them are important.

That is really worst because if a site go in Sandbox effects then it can take several months to go out of it.

well for me, i campaigned my site to family and friends where ever. i ask them to visit and browse around. many of them did and came back even. until eventually others who are not known to me even came to visit. but since i didn't work too much on my blog, it only got its ranking recently.

Among the points which you have presented above, I think the most important is look for "the right" keywords. Sometimes what really works out is that you may land upon some keywords which are not too over competitive so that increase your chance of getting better SERP.

Keyword is very important. And do not ignore the keyword density also
