Default What is the best first programming language?

Hi there...

I believe that the first programming language will have a profound effect on the programmer's skill and coding techique.

here, we have C++ as the first computer language that a student learns. What do you think of this? is there a better one?

I Think first you have to learn C after that come to C++. because after C you will be able to start C++ from arrays and pointers. and all your basics will be clear.

You can't said that HTML is a programming language... It is just coding... Now these days no one is using this HTML... because everyone have better alternatives which are easy to use, time savers and better results...

I think C should be the first language to teach before C++. This is because the C++ promote object oriented concept which I believe it's really hard for beginner to learn both the C++ syntax and object oriented concept at the same time!

believe that the best programming language to learn will be C#, because when learning it then easily you can work in console, windows and web application whether related to databases or not.

If you want to start programming, you should try QBasic. Search around the forum, I've posted it somewhere...
After you can program a lil in Qbasic, you should try C, Delphi or VB.
If you've chosen C, then upgrade to C++, and after C++, try C#.
If you've chosen Delphi, well fine, this will be your language.
If you've chosen VB, try VB.NET, then try VB 2008 !

Good luck !

I'm not very good in programming, i do only know the basic of C++ and it is good enough for me. However, the best programming is depend to personal, if you can use the programming to create the code and it works, then it is good

I like Java and it is the second programming language that I have learned. The first is Pascal but I learned it for only 3 months, it teaches good practice of programming though.
Afterwhich, I pick up others such as C, C++, VB, php...

I feel that when you know how to code in one language, learning others will be much easier as you only need to know the syntax and the various libraries of the language.

Back in my day they use to teach ADA as the first programming language as it is a strongly type language - i.e. you have to declare everything and be very strict with naming conventions etc - and ensured that you were use to applying good programming practices before being let of the reins into the world of c/c++

.........I dont knw if thats the first programming language, as there are lots of them out there, but one thing for sure if you wanna learn C++ its best to start from C or a lower class, C++ is first class programming so its best to know the basics first

My first programming language is Ada, which is a 3rd generation language. It's kinda difficult to learn, so I don't think it's good to be the first programming language. I think learning c, c++ or java as the first programming language would be good. As it helps you to build up the basic concept of programming, then you will have no problem to learn other programming language in future.
