Google has almost indexed all of my pages but no images, I put alternate text for
most of the images. Did I have to do something more to get images indexed?

I've heard that it's good to have them in a link (make them clickable) and don't use more than 5~10 words in the alt text. If you use more, they will be taken as spam or something similar by google and won't show on the top pages.

How do you find out if your images got indexed anyway?

Did you check whether the keywords used in the alt description text is similar to your meta tags. If it is different, that means your site is not properly optimized. If you put a link to represent the image, the anchor text should be made up of keywords.
