as i mention in the title, how alexa ranking work?
what is the meaning of the ranking?

alexa ranking works on how many user that visited to your site with an alexa toolbar..

Basically, Alexa measures the amount of traffic going to your site by the number of visitors using the Alexa toolbar which is integrated to browsers. It is a ranking system that provides information on where your site stands and what it means is that the lower the number, the higher your site ranks in terms of traffic. I'm not sure exactly how the algorithm works but there has been some controversy surrounding this issue.

Alexa ranking generally working based on following things
- traffic comes to your site
- back links from highly ranked sites in alexa

Alexa ranking is only collecting those visitor with alexa tool bar, if you do have mnay visitor do have install the alexa tool bar, then your alexa ranking will be high

Yes, alexa are ignore those visitor without using the alexa toolbar. Anyway, alexa is still the best referance on traffic since no other better reference

Alexa toolbar is used to find out how many members are visiting a site and at the same time how frequesntly is the site being used by the members ...By gathering this data from a wide range of internet users the rank to the page is given...But mostly these ranks are based on local usage and demand rather than world wide...!

i see, but even myself also not using alexa toolbar.
feel like alexa is not so accurate, but still have many people using alexa ranking as reference.

That's the reason why there has been controversy surrounding the issue on how accurate their measurement is. Let's say, if site A is getting 100 visitors per day and 80% of them are using Alexa compared to site B which is getting 1000 visitors per day but only 5% are using Alexa, this means that the ranking of site A is much higher in Alexa measurement.

Although one may argue that this scenario is rather unlikely, it could still be possible if site A is a webmasters forum whereby the visitors all have strong webmasters related knowledge and knowing how to use Alexa toolbar.
