Greetings All;
There has been alot of buzz about Google supplemental listings, and it has my head spinning. I have seen the posts about "Google hell" and supplementals and I have seen others who say "so what" the supplementals are hitting for those long tail searches.
Then I see folks saying use robots.txt etc to block off what they deem is "non-essential" pages like the about us pages to help eliminate supplemental listings and boost page rank of the pages aimed at creating sales conversions.
I am all about sales....but my particuliar industry has alot of data showing our consumers want to know who they are dealing with. (I have a lot of "about us" pages in the supplementals)
So, if a site has lots of about us pages is that ciphoning off the sales pages ranks?
If a page appears as a supplemental page, is that lowering the other SALES pages within the site it is linked to?
My domain, while several years old, has had an entire remake. We are targeting a specific geographic area but in an industry that is very competitive. The new design has been up about a month, and as I continue to tinker with pages I have been successful in moving some out of the supplemental so called "hell." Nevertheless, I am still building links and my rankings haven't shown significant movement.
So is this tinkering to make them move out of supplemental status worth it or should I just let Google sort it all out and hope I am catching some long tailed searches?
Should I robot.txt off the about us pages that are supplemental?
Lost in the maze,
kybizlady
