Belgium forward died FC Brugge and Belgium forward Francois Sterchele, 26, died early this morning in a car crash. The accident took place at 03.00 (01.00 GMT) when Sterchele was driving his Porsche Cayman (215km/h)towards Knokke, the most North-Eastern seaside resort of the Flemish coast.
Due to unknown reasons, the driver lost control of this car and hit a tree near the city of Antwerp, police said.
The first outcome of the investigation reveals no other cars were involved in the accident and that Sterchele was driving too fast.
FC Brugge forward played four games for Belgium and was considered a promise for the country’s soccer.
